Green Park Extension has always been a peaceful colony for the residents surrounded by green foliage all around. Not anymore!
Residents are living on tenterhooks, not knowing what would happen next. All the anti-social elements are lurking close by, behind the M Block Park, alongside the Nala, and behind the cremation ground. The jhuggi dwellers sneak into the colony in the dark of the night and steal whatever they can lay their hands on- like water pumps, iron lids, iron rods, ACs, and whatnot.
Though the M block Park is well protected with the iron grill above the concrete boundary, further topped with round barbed wires; for these jhuggi dwellers, nothing remains a barrier.
They are becoming more and more daring by the day. They have pulled out a whole section of iron grill towards a corner bend of the park where a dry-leaf compost pit is made. Now it is very easy for them to sneak in and out of the rectangle passage and vanish into thin air.
The gate number 10 cremation side which is locked during the night holds no barrier at all.
On 2nd May I got a call from a resident of V-Block that there was fire and smoke in the park. Horticulture people tried to extinguish it with house pipes.
The next day while taking a round, saw that somebody kept Durga Murti there. The next day again in the evening while walking in the park two young men quietly sitting behind the compost pit. When asked they said they were waiting for someone. I then told them that if they were waiting for someone, they should sit on a bench and not quietly sit behind the pit. They got up and in front of me, they jumped out of the space created and vanished. It is now quite obvious that jhuggi dwellers/anti-social elements have created an easy passage to sneak in and out of the colony, rob people’s houses and escape easily.
This is not the doing of one person. They work in groups to carry out their crimes.
My request to the MCD authorities is to furnish that space with grills and the jhuggis to be permanently removed from there.
Attached below are the residents’ responses to the thefts happening in the colony…
Rajesh Kakkar(3rd, May): Water pumps have been stolen from the service lane behind our house and the adjoining one. This menace is increasing and must be addressed.
Capt KKUppal(11th May): There has been a theft at M 11, GF, GPE. The house is locked for some time. The window is broken from where probably access to the house has been obtained. The door has also been opened.
Manju Nehra(N17/1,16thMay) Our a/c was stolen last night one week earlier two more were stolen from the same building even tried to enter but because of the grill he couldn’t enter. We are scared to live here. Please help me.
Manju Nehra,(17th,May): The full electric city pole is missing, only a small bottom portion is left in front of Shamshan gate.
Vijay Kowshik ( T-13FF, 8th June): Thieves are prowling in the colony. Six days back they removed two hubcaps from my car. Three days back again they removed another. This is being done in the late evening/very early in the morning. The watchmen have to be more alert to catch people with such items. It seems these are drug addicts who pick whatever they can lay their hands on. Please take precautionary measures otherwise more serious crimes will be committed.
