The Young-at-heart Yogis of Windsor

Every morning the lawns of Windsor Court are witness to a wonderful sight. The young-at-heart, all-women yoga group of the community comes together to exercise, chat and have loads of fun together. What can be a more energising and cheerful way to start your day?

The group was pioneered almost 15 years back by one of the most enthusiastic residents of Windsor, lovingly called ‘Guddy’ and now almost 12 ladies in the age group of seventies to late eighties are a part of it. They come together every morning at 7:00 clock for about an hour, for their daily dose of happiness. They do light exercises, pranayama and of course lots of Gupshup.

The group also celebrates festivals and milestones together. Birthdays are often enjoyed over a cup of tea, cake and samosas. Sometimes plans are made to watch a movie, go out for lunch or even a picnic when the weather is nice. The yoga group and all its activities are an integral part of the life of each member. During Basant Panchami one year, all ladies of the group were dressed in myriad hues of yellow and had a lovely potluck in the winter sun.

It is so heart-warming for all residents of Windsor to see them together daily. Kusum Malhotra Aunty who is a regular member of the group, says, “We all look forward to our morning ritual every day and encourage each other to participate in all activities. Even if one member is not feeling too well, we ask them to join and just sit with us. It is a great way for us to bond.”

Big cheers and touchwood to this inspiring group of ladies who are teaching us all the importance of sisterhood, togetherness and wellness.
