Before dawn on October 8, what were 600 runners across all age groups from 25 societies doing at TFA Ground, Sector 76? They were competing in the 3rd Unity RUN ’23. At stake was the podium finish for boys & girls, men & women; in the 2.5 km, 5 km and 10 km Run. Last edition had single runner from PW, who went on to lift the Trophy.
The event started with Zumba as a warm up. This followed with start of 10 km Run, 5 km Run and 2.5 km Run, each sequenced with about 10 min of time difference. There were Pacers, Marshals and volunteers all along the route. PW enveloped the day with its name called repeatedly at the podium, as a testimony of our talent and commitment. Winners from PW are:
10 KM (Male) – Yogesh Kumar – P 003 – First, 10 KM (Female) – Neha Sharma – B 102 – First, 5 KM (Male) – Praveen Tiwari – P 003 – First, 2.5 KM (Sr Citizen Female) – Sunita Ohari – H 1606 – First, 2.5 KM (Boy) – Arnav Garg – B 901 – Third, 2.5 KM (Girl) – Ashavari Sharma – F 1203 – First, and 2.5 KM (Girl) – Prachi Puri – M 201 – Second.
When Yogesh ran, he blurred the difference between marathon and sprinting; covering the distance in just 40 minutes, at average pace of 4.36 minutes per km! Cycle Marshalls struggled to match him.
The RUN left participants in awe, in a triumph of endurance. What was supposed to be a sporting event, participants made a festival out of it. An example of what can be achieved when people come together to promote a healthier, united society. We gathered as nominees, left as friends with hundreds of smiling faces.
I am an endorser of jogging. To me, we play various roles throughout the day, but in those 40 minutes of jogging; I am me only; nobody snatches those moments. It’s fun to sweat from forehead. Commence your own journey of regular running.
