There is a constant in our daily routine that sets the tone for the day: our morning cup of tea and the newspapers beside it. Except for one day in the year, it’s at our doorstep first thing in the morning come rain or shine. R.B. Tiwari runs the agency that supplies newspapers to Sector 30 and many others in the vicinity. His father was a refugee from Pakistan and traveled in disguise until he reached the Indian border. The family settled in Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) where they cultivated their fields before settling in Noida. Tiwariji started his agency in 1987, and his first customer was the late Dr. A.K. Kalia, a resident of D 73. Over the years, his customer base has grown to about 800 homes. He starts his day at 3:15 am and leaves home at 4:10 am. Like many other agents, he heads to Jaipuria Plaza where an impromptu depot is set up in the piazza forecourt. The vans from various publications drop their newspapers here, and within a half hour, these are collected by the vendors. In inclement weather, the depot moves to the verandas of the piazza. Then starts the tedious process of each insert being put into the newspapers. Advertisement flyers are added at this time. Great care is taken to ensure that no newspaper loses its fold or crispness. By about 6:30 am, Tiwariji and his helpers enter Sector 30. These young boys distribute newspapers before going to school. Every day, without fail, my newspaper arrives. Ah! Now for that morning cup of tea!
