The Rocking Kittens Have a Sporty Meeting

The creation of the Kittens Club of Sector A/31 has effectively made the Sector into a hot and happening one. Not to be outdone, the RWA has also begun organising events where all resident members can participate. So, in quick succession, a grand 75th Independence Day, Diwali Mela, and Winter Carnival were organised. This financial year, not a single month has passed without one grand event or another being organised. In fact, the balmy winter sun becomes the magnet, drawing both housewives and career women out for a mini gala event.

It is the resolution of the club, to have an event every month before the heat sets in. To flag this new policy off, a freebie games and Tambola event was organized on 29 December. Surya Dev was prayed to, fervently, as the entire week had been cloudy and gloomy and windy. Come the day, and he kept us on tenterhooks till noon. Then resplendent in gold and yellow, he shone brightly over our central park, for the duration of the entire event. The celebrations started off with an impromptu game of passing the ball. While the slicker, fitter versions led by the ever graceful, ever elegant Ira Sharma, slid the distance; the “healthier “versions huffed and puffed to run to their altered positions. An enthusiastic commentary by Ritu Dhillon; who decided it was Hindi Diwas, had the participants in splits. It did not help the healthy ones in any way, as they choked and struggled between their laughter and physical exertions! 2 games of this strenuous activity, and the ladies were quite done in. Thankfully, Sweety intervened and announced the first game of Tambola. Being a novice in this particular game, I missed 2 opportunities of prize money. While the game was ongoing, hectic preparations were on for the chai-shai. A sweet shop had agreed to provide bulk dhokla, samosa and kachori, followed by garm-garam Jalebi and chai – just the thing for a warm sunny afternoon, among friends. This was followed by the modern custom of selfies. And the more fashionable pouted and made the V sign, while the more sedate smiled like the proper ladies that they are.

Another round of Tambola, ensued. A bumperTambola. This time my luck held good and I co shared prize money for a “House”. While I am still at sea about the attractions of the game, winning money does help! 2 and a half hours had zipped past in the blink of an eye, and inexorably compelled by his fate, Surya Dev edged toward the horizon. Like a naughty student, making merry when the teacher is away, the wind began to rise, and our colourful ladies, in their Sunday Best were forced to return to their warm hearths, and await the arrival of that other Dev, PatiDev…
