Two Independence Day celebrations were held in the Sector. One by the SDF for household managers, in the park behind the RWA office (see report on page….), and the other by the RWA at the Club’s rear lawn. The SDF event ended just as the rain began, but the RWA celebrations, which were arranged with great fanfare, were cut short by the heavy downpour.
The Chief Guest for the occasion, Dr Mahesh Sharma, arrived at the Club quite in time but had to rush to the podium to unfurl the National Flag as the rain came down in real earnest. The gathering sang the National Anthem with gusto despite getting soaked in the rain as Dr Mahesh’s security rushed to the podium with umbrellas to protect him.
The most disappointed were the small children who had come all dressed up for the occasion, but were unable to showcase their costumes. Some of the little ones cried in disappointment and the parents and organisers had to pacify them.
The guests then rushed to the food counters and filled their plates and found a place to eat safe from the rain. The food laid out was simple but very good.
