The posh Sector 50 faces a persistent nuisance at the Community Center (CC). For years, it has been rented out for weddings, causing significant disruption to the residents of both bungalows and apartment blocks. Unfortunately, CC falls under the RWA of Sector 50 which operates independently of the apartment blocks.
While discussing this issue with many residents, both from the bungalows and apartments, it became clear that everyone suffers from the disturbances but feels powerless to change the situation. The CC, which should be a source of pride, is often ridiculed due to poor management. More so because they have individually approached the office in the CC to get respite; but, sadly, nothing changes.
We spoke with the General Secretary of another sector to understand how they handle such issues. He explained that they require an undertaking and have a penalty clause to enforce rules during the wedding season. He pointed out that Sector 50’s problem lies in its leadership: “The sector is run by a manager employed by the RWA.
“Many of us are not happy with the situation. The president’s lackadaisical attitude towards the welfare of Sector 50 is costing us dearly,” shared a resident on condition of anonymity.
Despite the Supreme Court’s implementation of GRAP IV in NCR and strict measures against pollution, firecrackers continued bursting at weddings, showing a blatant disregard for health and law.
Dr. Birender Thind (residing in B-81), Consultant in Preventive Cardiology, shared “There are numerous elderly patients, even up to 96 years of age, residing near the CC, who suffer from different ailments, including high blood pressure and critical heart disease (post bypass surgery and angioplasty). Unnecessary sudden high pitch/loud sounds can cause unwanted side effects (such as fluctuation in blood pressure, anxiety and blood sugar levels) that can lead to sudden complications in such people.”
Students of Sector 50 also often complain. Avi Jain, class Xth student, of Mahagun Morpheus says, “The relentless loud music and crackers noise coming from the CC create a chaotic environment that makes studying nearly impossible. These disturbances not only affect concentration, but also leave me feeling stressed and exhausted. It’s hard to find peace amidst all the noise.”
The music is loud and sleazy. The firecrackers ban is openly flaunted. Thus, further adding to the damaging noise and air pollution.
Will the RWA President please stand up and take corrective actions? Many residents, we contacted, say that when fed up of the noise, they dial 100 or 112. Police do respond.
But why can’t we live in peace and stop this uncouthness?
