In the History of any Nation comes a time when we have to shift from the old to the new. India’s new criminal laws are now effective from 1st July 2024. THE BHARTIYA NYAY SANHITA (BNS) replaced the INDIAN PENAL CODE (IPS), BHARTIYA NAGRIK SURAKSHA SANHITA replaced the Code OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE (CrPS.), BHARTIYA SAKSHYA ADHINIYAM (BSA) replaced the INDIAN EVIDENCE ACT, to modernise and streamline the Criminal Justice system.
The forthcoming laws introduce several progressive provisions. These 3 laws focus on justice rather than punishment and are aimed at providing speedy justice. These laws are made by the Indians for the Indians, by the Indian Parliament and mark the end of the primitive, colonial criminal Justice laws.
The 3 laws focus on providing justice for children and women against crimes like false promises of marriage, gang rape, and engagement in sexual relations by false promises of employment or marriage without the intention to fulfil them, and could result in up to 10 years of imprisonment as punishment. There will be no need to lodge FIR complaints at one police station, Instead, One can go to any police station now. In addition, Technological advancements include online police complaints to reduce paperwork and enhance communication.
We, the team at GK-2 RWA, coordinated an awareness program on New Criminal Laws at the Arya Samaj Mandir on 1st July 2024.
The respected DCP and SDM attended and briefed the residents about the new criminal laws. It was done at a very short notice. However the program was successful and informative, and the room was full of GK2 residents attending it. It was evident how people were curious about the new laws and very respectful towards the Police. The RWA honoured our esteemed police officers with a small entertainment program which included songs by senior citizens and a small skit by school children. Along with these, the RWA ladies prepared a small skit too.
In his speech, one of our revered police officers mentioned that very few children are interested in joining the police. We should encourage our new generation to join this field and only then, we citizens will be safer and lead a more secure life.
Towards the end of the programme we thanked the Delhi police for living true to their motto of Shanti Seva aur Nyaay. Jai Hind
