Apex Athena, in collaboration with a renowned hospital and a new agency, recently organized a comprehensive workshop focused on Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). This collaborative effort aimed to equip participants with vital life-saving skills and knowledge in emergency situations.
During a cardiac arrest, the heart ceases to pump blood effectively to vital organs, posing an immediate threat to life. Without adequate blood and oxygen supply to the brain within a critical window of just five minutes, irreversible brain damage or death may occur. However, timely administration of CPR can significantly increase the chances of survival by 30%, as emphasized by an esteemed authority from the Emergency Medical Department of the hospital.
They imparted invaluable insights on CPR techniques during a workshop. Stressing the importance of proper assessment, they advised attendees to first confirm a cardiac arrest before initiating CPR, urging them to check the patient’s heart rate and pulse. Only when no response is detected should CPR be administered, following a concise three-step protocol: tapping the patient’s shoulder and assessing responsiveness, checking the heart rate, and verifying the pulse rate.
Effective CPR entails compressing the chest to a depth of 2-2.5 inches at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute, followed by two breaths delivered mouth-to-mouth. The expert further recommended positioning the patient flat on the floor, closing their nose, and tilting the head back while administering breaths, repeating this sequence four times per minute. By adhering to these guidelines, individuals can significantly improve the chances of survival for those experiencing cardiac arrest, underscoring the critical role of CPR in emergency medical care.
The workshop, facilitated by the expert healthcare professional, provided attendees with hands-on training and theoretical insights into CPR techniques, emphasizing the importance of immediate intervention during cardiac emergencies. With the combined expertise of the hospital, renowned for its exceptional medical services, and a leading media platform committed to public welfare, the workshop underscored the significance of community empowerment through education and proactive healthcare initiatives.
