The Little Dog Park Of Sector 61

Unsightly feather in this park’s cap is that of being the dumping ground for the educated illiterates.

Our sector has an unofficial dog park, thanks to the collaborative socialization efforts of the umpteen pet parents that throng this area. Although the park is small, the dogs certainly aren’t complaining. This little piece of land is nothing less than a slice of heaven for the pooches that are confined to their apartments for a major chunk of their day. Here, they get to run freely, play chase with other dogs, show off their obedience skills and sniff away to glory without bothering others. In fact, folks from other sectors also visit this park along with their pets- certainly a matter of pride for us Sec-61 residents!

However, I have heard a lot of people complain about how pets litter the park with their poop and pee. Ironically, these self-proclaimed environmental activists conveniently turn a blind eye when posh-looking dudes get down from their expensive cars to urinate in the park’s fringes after dusk. This little park dons multiple hats- one of which is being an open-to-all public urinal at the disposal of high-society folks who, I’m assuming, do not have toilets at home. During the rainy season, the stench of urine emanating from the park becomes unbearable, giving passersby and visitors a golden opportunity to polish their breath control skills!

Another unsightly feather in this park’s cap is that of being the dumping ground for the educated illiterates, who use this place to dispose their dry waste- from plastic bottles to non-biodegradable trash generated during parties. In fact, I had once accompanied a neighbor to walk her pet dog at night and was standing guard at the gate when a car with heavily tinted windows stopped nearby for a couple of seconds and the men sitting inside threw out empty beer cans that landed right next to my feet.

The anonymity of darkness certainly lets ‘civilized’ people get away with a lot of ‘uncivilized’ business.

Even dogs have the decency to cover up after making a mess. Waste generated by them will eventually decompose, but what about the waste generated by humans? It is easy to target dogs because they cannot speak up for themselves. If you’re a genuine advocate for environmental degradation, target your own species first.

Charity begins at home.

Many residents these days wake up to the Swachhta song played on loudspeaker of the vans that pick up garbage every morning
