Over the years the H Block green belt on Kachnar Marg has been developed into a green paradise with a variety of flora throughout the stretch. All of this has been possible thanks to a few residents including an active resident on Kachnar Marg – Arun Gupta and his daughter-in-law Navita Gupta (1D, Kachnar Marg).
Residents of H and G Block, along with SOA residents enjoy their evening and morning walks in this green patch. We had the opportunity to meet Navita and her horticulture team who work day and night to make this space beautiful.
Recently, Navita has taken the sustainable route by using huge tyres to fill soil and plant trees in them instead of using pots. ” We wanted to make kiyaari’s but the whole process was expensive, so we thought of finding an affordable yet sustainable alternative. Using old tyres and making these kiaaris to support the plants has worked well in the process. We tried asking for empty pet bottles (Coke, Limca, water etc) so that we can use them as fencing material for plants and trees but didn’t get too much response. We have installed around 50 such tyres in this green patch so far ” says Navita.
The horticulture team behind this green area include Raj Kumar, Shrikant, Laloo, Ashok and Jainath. (see pic above) Kudos to the effort put in by this team!
