The Growing Menace of Encroachment: A Call for Action in DLF Phase 4

A midst the luxurious DLF Phase 4 residences in the center of Gurgaon, there is an increasing concern of encroachment that jeopardizes the neighborhood’s safety. A popular area for illegal roadside shops and vending encroachments is the area surrounding Hamilton Road, a vital route that connects DLF 4 and DLF 1. In recent years, these encroachments—which range from fruit and vegetable stands to auto repair shops and car service stations—has multiplied every time when u cross that road, turning the formerly peaceful residential area into a crowded and dangerous location.

Not only the calmness of the area has been eliminated, the increasing traffic on the road has led to immense congestion. Residents now find it all the more difficult to move around the neighborhood due to narrowing of road due to these encroachments, which frequently lead to traffic bottlenecks and delays.

Upon closer examination, it was found out that many of these businesses operate without the required licenses and permits, which seriously compromises the rule of law and creates safety concerns. The absence of rules and regulations means that these stores and vendors frequently violate safety standards, endangering the lives of the nearby residents. The situation is further degraded due to lack of appropriate waste disposal systems, which results in unhygienic conditions and environmental damage.

Despite multiple complaints and appeals to local authorities, the situation has not been resolved, leaving residents of DLF Phase 4 feeling powerless and frustrated. The encroachment issue has become a daily struggle, and the continuous noise and pollution produced by these roadside businesses has negatively impacted their quality of life.

On behalf of the residents and the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) bodies, we urge the local authorities to take immediate and decisive action to address this growing menace. A thorough investigation is needed to identify and shut down all establishments operating without the necessary permissions. We request a quick action so that the area returns to its original state as soon as possible.

The encroachment issue in the vicinity of Hamilton Road is not just a local problem but a reflection of the broader challenges faced by urban areas in managing growth and maintaining order. Local authorities must act swiftly and decisively to uphold the law and ensure the safety and well-being of residents. Only through concerted efforts can we hope to reclaim our neighborhoods and restore the quality of life that every citizen deserves.

We urge all stakeholders, including local authorities, RWA bodies, and residents, to come together and demand immediate action. Let us work towards creating a safer, cleaner, and more liveable environment for all. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that our neighborhoods remain the peaceful havens they were meant to be.
