DLF-1 Needs To Adopt Horticulture Waste Composting DLF-1 along with the rest of Gurugram is facing a significant environmental challenge: horticulture waste.
DLF-1 has always been a green area full of trees and plants, and residents have made constant efforts to create green areas in parks and green belts like the one on Kachnar Marg.
However, with this growth comes the inevitable by-product of waste, posing a threat to the environment and risk of fire due to the heat. Heaps of dry leaves have been gathered in different spots within the colony and no one is taking the responsibility to take care of them. Besides the risk of fire, which has happened earlier as well, this accumulation of organic waste can be a breeding ground for pests and pathogens, posing health risks to residents.
Back in 2014, a composite plant was started which was managed by Mr. Saurabh Vardhan. It definitely helps in managing the excess dry leaves but there is no aligned way to send the dry leaves to the plant.
Our local block RWA’s must follow up with the MCG to send horticulture waste collecting tractors regularly. An agency could also be hired by the MCG that will compost this waste by either collecting it or creating a composting mechanism within the colony. Residents need to come forward as well, many initiatives have been taken up in other colonies where residents have created basic composting pits in the parks or in empty plots. The only thing to take care of is regular maintenance of these pits so that the composting process is handled properly.
