Someone has rightly said, “Sports are more than just games; they are about life, emotion, passion, and some of the greatest highs and lows that we can experience.” Today, sports are essential for people’ overall growth and development. Playing various sports helps them teach life skills such as teamwork, leadership, accountability, patience, and self-confidence and prepares them to face life challenges.
But unfortunately, the space for children to play has been shrinking day by day. Be it the independent houses or the apartments, the play area is almost nonexistent for children. The parks have mostly been landscaped and converted into ornamental ones. The children are shooed away by elderly residents citing that they would harm the plants and spoil the grass. There is not any clear stretch for children between the age group of 12 to 16 to play cricket or football. Fortunately, our Sector has been blessed with people who know the importance of sports for children and adults alike. Sports have always been important in Sector 39 and hence the presence of a good playground.
Recently another initiative has been taken up in this direction. It’s called Khelo 39. This sports initiative is mainly spearheaded by DK Varshney and Suraj Verma but is supported by many other residents as well as the RWA. The sports carnival organized by the group was a huge success.
This is a new initiative which was started by a handful of people in our sector 39 and it was a huge hit which ended with a fabulous Carnival held on 25 June in our Community Center.
Creating awareness of the activities, and games and motivating sector people to participate in it involved tremendous effort. There were 2 major good points –one that the children would utilize their summer breaks in a more competitive and sporty way; two all the games involved people of all age groups. This encouraged people of all ages to remain physically fit in a very interesting way.
The carnival was well organized with a muscat and name. All winners were awarded. Along with that e-rickshaws were there for transportation and yoga and dance by our sector kids.
So, there are many ways people showed their contribution towards Khelo-39.
We would encourage more people to come forward and their sporty talent and all the best Khelo-39 team.
