As we continued to face the onslaught of a scorching summer, thanks to the El Nino hitting its prime before it started to fade, a few pleasant things have come out of it. In the last edition, we talked about a group of residents coming forward to provide cool drinks and snacks to the guards and support staff throughout AOH… They continued their efforts, with more distribution rounds, including lemonade, chaach, sweet bun, bananas and more.
Many children, including Mihir Deshpande, Mannat Khurana, Rhea, Saisha Malhotra, among others, joined in the distribution drive. They plan to continue supporting for as long as they have the funds.
Another wonderful achievement has been the purchase and installation of the coolers (finally!). Here too, driven by the willpower of Somoshree Khandekar (14121), Urmi Mitra (7002), Richa (5181), Sameer Bhatia and so many others who have got together to mobilise the residents en mass and the BOM to agree for coolers to be installed for all guards and staff.
14 small coolers and 8 large coolers have been bought with the funds collected from the residents. The group also ensured to get the coolers installed at every location, going to the extent of even getting sockets changed where required.
The guards have been happy and grateful.
It is tremendous how much we can achieve if we decide and motivate each other to work towards it! It is also a testament of the fact that so many of us stood up for these causes; after all, the right to protection for extreme heat is likely to become a fundamental right soon, and we are glad to be doing our little bits in making sure of this!
The efforts to distribute goodies and refreshments are continuing with periodic distributions for all support staff. Those who wish to continue to contribute may do so.
