In the morning of 28th April, residents of a particular area were complaining about the power outage, since the wee hours of the morning, for which the DHBVN staff immediately responded and clarified to the residents that C 1142 and 1761 transformer is shut, which is why there is no power.
Instantly, a squall of suggestions started pouring in that the transformers should be taken care of properly… it is not good to have a transformer on fire like this… what does the staff of DHBVN do to avoid such calamities and so forth and so on, without knowing the real reason at all! I don’t understand why we are so judgmental about everything and start lecturing about whether it is correct or not without getting to know the whole truth! Most of the suggestions were puffed off when they got to know it was not the transformer but the residence C 1661 that was ablaze, so for safety the supply switch was off.
C 1661 seems to be a PG accommodation, the builder along with the residents of the property had compromised with the safety rules. There were a bunch of electrical wires going straight into the builder’s floor, any short circuit might have caused nearby combustible material to catch fire and explode. According to the rule, these wires should be covered by a conduit pipe until get attached to the meter but to save some bucks people can go a long way and doing so being lucky, do not get caught by the administrators!
People were worried sick, had it been a 60 yards PG, the inhabitants caught on the top floors would be sitting ducks as no fire security is checked before renting a property. In C 1661, the fire seems to have commenced due to a short circuit in the stilt and spread quickly trapping the residents’ exit. We believe a girl occupant had received fire injuries and was taken to the hospital. This kind of 215 square yard house specially built for PG has 18 room sets and electrical gadgets accordingly, are we playing with lives? The police also reached the spot and waited to enter the premises. It is a sad affair, we need to be more vigilant and responsible, lest our actions /inactions cause damage to others.
