Greater Kailash, a residential colony once known for its peaceful atmosphere, is now grappling with a growing issue – the dog menace. While dog lovers may view stray dogs as harmless companions, the reality is that their behaviour can be unpredictable and territorial, posing a threat to various members of the community.
Pedestrians, cyclists, rag pickers, and children are all vulnerable to dog attacks, which can be traumatic and even life-threatening. The incessant barking at night further exacerbates the problem, disrupting the peace of the neighbourhood.
The municipal authorities are aware of the issue but face limitations in addressing it. Neutering dogs is a temporary solution, as they are often returned to the same location, only to continue causing problems. In some cases, local residents even put collars around the dogs’ necks to prevent authorities from taking action.
While compassion for community dogs is understandable, it’s essential for dog lovers to be considerate towards fellow residents who may not be comfortable around dogs. The man-beast conflict is inconvenient for all parties involved and requires a balanced approach. It’s time for the community to come together to address the dog menace in Greater Kailash. By finding a middle ground between compassion and consideration, we can create a safer, more harmonious environment for all residents.
