The Book Fair – A Learning Experience

The World Book Fair is a huge event which is organised by the National Book Trust of India on a yearly basis. This event brings us a one – stop destination where both international and domestic authors come together to sell their books to the public in hopes of someone learning something from them.

The Book Fair also offers the exhibitors a unique opportunity for business with this growing book industry. It is also an ideal venue for promoting titles, co-publication arrangements and trade. Besides the many literary and publishing conferences and programmes that are organized during the Fair, it also opens a gateway to the publishing and intellectual world of South Asia.

It is the best place to get books for a limited budget. I personally got around 10 almost mint condition books for only INR 1,500. I know for a fact I could have gotten more by negotiating or going to the World Book Fair on the last day.

With the almost unlimited number of publishers present, while it may take some time to find the book, one is guaranteed to find whatever they want. The National Book Trust also organised many cultural performances and conferences which talked about children’s education. The most fascinating part about this – to include everyone, the conferences had a deaf interpreter who converted the conversation to sign language.

While this year’s Book Fair is now over, I will recommend going to the Fair even if books don’t really interest you. It is an excellent learning experience which one shouldn’t miss out on, considering the entry ticket only costs Rs. 20 per adult.
