The 56th Magh Month-long Havan Yagya Event Eoncludes

Mahila Samaj of Arya Samaj Kailash-Greater Kailash-1 has, for the last 56 years, been organising month-long havan and pravachan programs. Arya Samaj Greater Kailash-1 is the only Arya Samaj in the whole of Delhi, maybe India, which has been dedicatedly and successfully organising this event year after year.

The Magh Mah Havan program, which normally begins on January 14 and concludes on February 14 each year, involves daily havan and pravchan from 10.30 to 12.00. Both men and women participate. Couples from among Arya Samaj members and residents become yajmans each day. Havan yagya was followed by pravchan on Vedas every day.

The concluding day event was an elaborate function. This year the function was held on February 13 in Arya Samaj Yagya Shala. Havan Yagya was performed by Acharya Virender Vikram with Mrs. and Arun Bahl, Secretary, Arya Samaj, as yajman and other members and guests in large numbers participating in havan yagya. Amla Thakral welcomed guests and invitees by applying sandal tilak on their foreheads and spraying rose petals. At the conclusion of the havan, Vanita Kapoor coordinated collective prayer chanting “Om Ho Rakshak Hamare Sub Guno Ki Khan Ho “.

After the havan, the concluding function began with bhajans by Joyita and Shastri Ji, followed by a keynote address by Dr. Mahesh Vidyalankar on the theme “Importance of Yagya in Life “. He emphasised the need for pure souls and acts of kindness, donation, helping the poor and needy, and selfless service that is considered yagya. As in Havan yagya (agnihotr), where we offer ghee and samigri to fire while chanting Swaha (giving back to you, God), in life too we need to give whatever we can to people who need it. He suggested living a life of giving and doing that will give you peace and satisfaction.

Dr. Sunita Sharma, professor of Sanskrit at Venkateswara College, Delhi University, spoke on the theme “Tanme Manah Shivshankalpmastu. “ Her message was to manage our thoughts (man), which is responsible for all our actions. We need to overcome and control our thoughts and act using our brains (Budhi). Irrational acts lead to stress and pain while thoughtful actions lead to peace and well-being. Deep breathing helps in managing and controlling stray thoughts.

Veena Arora, Prem Narula, Sashi Prabha Arya, Usha Kiran Kathuria, and Rachna Ahuja, representing Arya Vidhya Parishad, Arya Kendriya Sabha, Prantiye Arya Mahila Sabha, and other Arya Samaj, spoke at the event.

Usha Marwah, president, Mahila Samaj, Greater Kailash-1, delivered a vote of thanks and appreciated all speakers and guests for their contribution and presence. Renu Chaudhry, secretary of Mahila Samaj Greater Kailash-1, managed the event smoothly and played the crucial role of program planner and master of ceremonies.

The function concluded with langar for one and all. The Kailash-Greater Kailash-1 Mahila Samaj team deserves kudos for organising such an event successfully year after year.
