On August 4, Hamilton Court witnessed a spectacular celebration of Teej, a festival that brings women together to honor tradition and revel in the joy of community. This year, the festivities began with a delightful sight: ladies adorned in every shade of green, their outfits reflecting the lushness of the monsoon season. The Hamilton garden was transformed with the addition of a beautifully decorated jhoola (swing), which served as a picturesque backdrop for the evening.
As the festivities kicked off, the women gathered around the jhoola to sing traditional Sawan songs. These melodious tunes, dedicated to the rainy season and the gods, created an enchanting atmosphere. In a serendipitous twist, the skies opened up, and rain began to fall as if summoned by the soulful singing. While the rain might have been a surprise, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits.
The enthusiastic ladies of Hamilton Court simply moved the party indoors. Gathering in the spacious porch area, they continued their celebration with undiminished enthusiasm. The festivities continued with a series of engaging games. From ‘Teej Trivia ‘ to ‘Antakshari’, the games had everyone laughing and competing, filling the atmosphere with cheer and camaraderie.
After the games, everyone moved to the highlight of the day: the food stalls from Chaat Chowk. These stalls offered a variety of mouth-watering chaat, a beloved Indian street food. The Hamiltonians relished the opportunity to indulge in these delectable treats, making the food stalls a major hit of the celebration.
The Teej celebration at Hamilton Court on August 4 was a testament to the community’s resilience, joy, and spirit of togetherness. It will be remembered not just for the rain, but for the warmth, laughter, and shared moments that made it truly special.
