Team Harmony Wins All The Five Seats

Vasant Vihar Club Elections

Vasant Vihar Club Elections were held on 10 March 2024 to elect five members to the Vasant Vihar Club Committee, out of which one seat was reserved for a lady member.

Elections were held under the overall supervision and control of Gp Capt Suresh Khanna as the returning officer.

Two polling stations were set up, one at the Vasant Vihar Club for the members from Vasant Vihar and the other at the Mini Kalyan Kendra, Shanti Niketan for the members from Shanti Niketan.

The polling started at 10 am and continued till 3 pm. The first one to walk in to cast his vote was Dr. Anuj Gupta, followed by Achala Kaul, and Deepak Mishra, President, Govt. Servants Cooperative House Building Society (GSCHBS). The polling remained at low key all through the day despite the eligible voters, 80 years and above, having the option to nominate any of his/her Nominee Member of the Club, of the age 20 years and above, to cast his/her vote.

Out of 1552 eligible voters, only 370 voters turned up to vote (330 at Vasant Vihar and forty at Shanti Niketan). This was perhaps the lowest turnout in the history of Vasant Vihar Club Elections.

The counting of votes started around 3.30 pm and by 5 pm the results were declared.

The following members were declared elected to the Club Committee by the Returning Officer:

– Sunil Anand

– Capt. Raja Chopra

– Sunil Duggal

– Rajinder Maggu

– Vineeta Bhardwaj (Elected Unopposed)

All the five elected candidates are from Team Harmony. With the winning of these five candidates, Team Harmony has an absolute majority in the Managing Committee of the Society and the Vasant Vihar Club Committee.

Rajinder Maggu bagged the maximum number of votes (277), closely followed by Sunil Anand (258) and Sunil Duggal (254). Expressing his gratitude to the electorate for reposing faith in him, Maggu said it was all due to teamwork and that the team will work in harmony to fulfil the promises that have been made by Team Harmony to the Club members.

We now await the allocation of portfolios and formation of various sub- committees.
