Vasant Vihar Society Elections were held on 18 February 2024 to elect 11 members to the Managing Committee of the Society consisting of President, two Vice Presidents, two lady members and six members in the general category, The polling commenced at 9.30 am. Gurdeep Singh was the first one to cast his vote followed by Milly Murgai, Puspendra Rai, Anil Bhargava and Ramesh Chander, The polling continued throughout the day till 3.30 pm without any break.
It was most heartening to see many senior citizens in advanced age namely Dr. RS Gupta, Air Marshal DS Sabhikhi, AS Bedi, Anjali Shastri, coming all the way to the polling booth to cast their valuable vote. It is high time the laws are amended to facilitate the super senior citizens to cast their vote through postal ballot, delegation of authority or any other convenient means.
It is the first time an additional polling booth was set up at the Community Center, Shanti Niketan for the convenience of Shanti Niketan residents.
Out of 1700 eligible voters, only 606 voters tuned up for voting. This is perhaps the lowest percentage of votes polled in the Vasant Vihar Society Elections.
The counting of votes commenced around 5.30 pm and continued till 8.30 pm.
