Tale of Two Kitties –The Thirsty Kitty

Early morning, with Covid scare still in the air, I decided to walk on the terrace instead of the park. And who should trot along by my side like a faithful dog, who else but Brownie! She ran ahead, looked back at me and was glad that (not she but ) I was escorting her and soon her fears of ‘Gundi’ faded away.

However, I soon discovered, she wasn’t running next to me but doing something very unusual! We have all heard the story of ‘the thirsty crow’ … now hear the tale of the no less intelligent Choti. She was very thirsty it seems and not finding water anywhere, she decided to suck on the clothes left to dry out on the line! What a cute picture that was! She held onto the churidar( of my helper) very firmly with her claws, pressed it hard and as water oozed out, she kept sipping it as if savouring a delicious drink. She sure proved her brain had a lot of grey matter !

Frantic calls here and there, animal welfare homes, loving friends… we were trying hard to find a nice home for Brownie where she could live happily indoors. One Sunday, we did get lucky, or so we thought !

A young girl called to enquire about Brownie and the best part being …she had 2 male cats who had lost their sister in a mishap and she thought of Choti as the perfect fit for her home.

She was arriving the next day. With a heavy heart all toys were packed. Basket made ready with cat food and clean bowls to be carried to a land of no sorrow and 2 brothers.

Finally on the D-Day… we received a message saying the girl had changed her mind ! We were happy and disappointed! So, Choti never went !
