Today is the third day little Brownie has not come! Two nights ago, at midnight, we heard cats fighting on the terrace and there has been no sign of Brownie since then.
A month has passed… and still no trace of Brownie. Was she hibernating, united with her mom, dead?…gosh No!
As I admitted my sick mom to a non- covid hospital in the neighborhood and was opening the window to let some light in…who should I behold…the brown apple of my eye…sitting on the parapet of the house next door!! How I rejoiced that Brownie was alive and she even responded to my calls with sad meows. My children came rushing to the hospital…no…not to see Nani but Brownie!
Much to our delight, we found out that a compassionate cat loving couple, who had their office there, had adopted both Brownie and Meowth and were tending to all their needs. Meowth had had a fresh litter of three kittens AND our little Brownie was pregnant!! On investigating further, we found out that the duo found them adorable and very friendly and had named them “Cheeni” and “Peaches” respectively.
So, does this story have a happy ending? Well, yes and no. Meowth, a second time mom, seemed very weak and disoriented and that very evening got run over by a car, in front of our eyes, as we watched helplessly …much to our horror and dismay. But her babies found good homes.
Brownie whose entire life was a roller coaster ride… gave birth to Boondi, Jamun and Kesar ( named according to their fur coat colours). She had a real “Rags to Riches” story and now lives in fancy bungalow with her daughter, Boondi. They watch TV together and their masters dote on them.
This true story was written during the dreadful corona times. So thankful to God for the delightful moments we shared with these cats.
Cute Kitty, soft kitty, little ball of fur
Dreadful corona times were made cheerful by your purrs!
