(An account of true life incidents that touches our lives and changes them – we start this small new series on first-hand pet experiences)
Once upon a time, our lives were quiet and still, and then God said, “Let there be noise, let there be fun,” and sure enough, loads of these came rolling our way. Mihir, my son, is an animal lover
and so is my daughter, but pets in the past have been my babies. I am the caretaker and they are the animal pamperers and spoilers. Having done enough service to two canines, I put my foot down to “No more pets in our house”!!
Desperate and dejected, Mihir befriended the stray cat that often strolled our terrace and lawn. He sat down with her, stroked her head gently, murmured some sweet coochie coos in her ears and lo, she lay on the ground and rolled over and this was the beginning of a crazy new chapter in our lives. “Why this one?” I asked. “She is the most good-looking one around and fit and slim too!!” answered the fitness freak. While I thought he admired pretty, athletic girls at his age, it seemed this was all he was interested in! Cool! She seemed quiet and friendly and I was fine with the fact that he would just feed her and she would be outdoors! So, no babysitting for me. Little did I know that she was pregnant and all heaven and hell was about to break loose! Speculation was rife between the two siblings,” Where is she going to deliver the babies?” they would often guess. “Our lawn is perfectly suited for the new arrivals,” my son chuckled. No, I didn’t want to believe this. “No, no it is too open and exposed for newborns!” I dreaded what was coming! Now that this fit and pretty feline was family, she was named “Meowth” and yes she did look like the Meowth on TV. Watch this space for more as I narrate the events that followed.
