Ever since it’s inception, C Block is suffering the brunt of urbanisation, random people with random motives, com-mercialisation, an army of service class and vanishing park lanes have confined the residents to their own safety pockets! There are many lanes in C block that are solely used by Zomato and Swiggy, thus called by these names, their number of vehicles are scattered around, making already a congested lane, impossible to manoeuvre through traffic hours. Gold Souk Mall at one end and Vyapar Kendra at another, cause enough confusion to the narrow lanes. The high-speed traffic, that saves motorists time by crossing the residential colony, throwing all precautions to the air and creating havoc for the residents, is suffered by them patiently.
Recently a maid lost her life to the speeding traffic in C block. Top it all the pavements are now encroached by small-scale vendors, who find it their birthright to open shops there, to serve the community! Every other morning we see a tea stall here, a bread and sweetmeats person, setting his stall there, leaving alone the cobblers, presswala, fruit vendors, kabaadi walahs and many more, busy in their morning scores to lure the crowd.
A daring resident, who ventures to walk outside to run errands, struggles to find his way back home. Fauji market‘s limitless seams, closed lane gates and the perpetual onslaught of speeding traffic inside C block scare the wits of a lone walker!
Some newly constructed houses have made the stilt parking but many vehicles remain parked randomly on roads, umpteen Ola, and Uber vehicles with many three-wheelers, make it almost impossible to commute, in the lanes of Sushant Lok today.
Gone are the days of tranquillity and clean surroundings, today’s Sushant Lok is gobbled up by commercialization, cut into pieces by the saw of urbanization and who knows what else is written in its destiny! The future will unfurl itself but the same Sushant lok will be difficult to be resurrected if we don’t take the precautions now.
