Imagine that as a resident of South City, you have to go to a shop in a Mall in NOIDA because that Brand is available only there in NCR. You have been planning this visit for a few weeks, and then you decide to make this trip one weekend. You reach South Extension in 45 minutes and get a call from a friend that the shop/mall is closed for some reason.
What would you do? Would you continue the journey just because you have travelled half the distance?
This is the “Sunk Cost fallacy” and these are questions that I as a part of the Governing Body of SCRWA am trying to answer. After 18 months of vacillation and doubts, in March 2024 we took the first step towards a common security infrastructure for South City 1 by initiating a small project for Night time security on Central Avenue.
We are now heartbroken as a team to announce that we had to abandon this project in the 1st week of June as only 30% of residents agreed to contribute Rs. 750 – Rs. 4200 a month for securing our colony. More importantly, 70% refused.
The Sunk Cost Fallacy is staring at SCRWA EC in the face as we are quite sure that our destination (Vision for a better South City 1) is closed just as the shop/mall/Noida in the 1st paragraph.
Does it make sense for SCRWA EC to continue with an unattainable vision? Please write to scrwa.gurgaon@gmail.com if you want SCRWA EC to continue.
Thanks, Ashwani, GS, SCRWA
