Suncity is a sprawling township in the heart of Gurugram city, surrounded by the beautiful Aravallis and an impressive green cover. However, this idyllic home to thousands of residents is
also adversely affected by environmental degradation resulting in a loss of biodiversity and a precious life-sustaining natural resource “Water”.
As an environmentally conscious community various ways are adopted at Suncity to conserve water, one of them is rainwater harvesting.
In one such endeavour to tackle the situation of receding the water table, the young residents of Suncity popularly called the “Water Warriors” emerged as the torchbearers for a better tomorrow. The new generation of young leaders from Suncity took an inspiring initiative to understand the delicate dynamics of the ecosystem in Aravallis and pledged to protect the Aravallis which will have a positive impact on water conservation in the region.
Aravallis act as water recharge zones. Aravallis is home not only to rich flora and fauna, it also has water reservoirs that are depleting at a fast pace. Aravallis has also acted as the green barrier performing the ecological function of protecting the northern states also known as the bread basket of India, from desertification. The Aravallis Green Wall Project launched recently will increase the green cover and biodiversity in the region along with the restoration of water bodies. Besides protecting the Aravallis the water warriors have inspired all of us as a community to do all that we can in our capacity to stop the wastage of water in our homes and surroundings by following some basic steps # Not letting our overhead water tanks overflow ( Equipping them with an alarm ) # Fixing our leaking faucets # Using a mug to brush teeth # Using a bucket and a mug for bathing # Turning off an unnecessarily running tap at home or thy neighbours’ to stop wastage of this life-sustaining resource We look forward to the growing army of water warriors enabling all of us to have a water-secure future.
