Sumita Dass – A Social Entrepreneur Who Helped During The Recent NCR Floods

Sumita Dass (Hno. B-146, Sector 41) was born and brought up in Agra. She went to St. Patrick’s School Agra and later did her MSc. in Zoology. She later worked in the education sector and was also the Headmistress at Ryan International School, Sec 39.

Sumita went for a M.Sc. in Leadership and Management to Sheffield Hallam University, UK and has a vast experience in developing performance management systems, mentoring and organizing welfare programs. Working in the UK for UN programs, Sumita realized there was a vast need for upliftment in and around Noida. So, after settling back here, she formed the NGO in 2015.

Her Foundation ‘Life Of Vision’, actively helped families living on Pusta Road, affected by the recent NCR flood. The volunteers team tirelessly worked to provide cooked food & drinking water to ~200 people every day. Those who could cook were provided free dry rations. More than 7000  people are still affected in areas affected by overflowing of Yamuna specially Sector 135. Measures are being taken by Noida Authority but a lot needs to be done for the families living there.

The volunteers extended their support to the children in the flood – affected area through their program ’Bringing Hope Through Education’. They gave the children colouring books, colours & notebooks to keep them engaged.

To support the women, the team provided sewing machines under the endeavour ‘Taana Baana’ so that they could stitch cloth bags. It is a small start in these difficult times but a big step towards financial independence.

Sumita does face the fundraising challenge for her work. “Fundraising is a task, but I don’t let it demoralise me.” Says Sumita.  Henry Ford’s quote keeps me motivated, “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.”

Sumita (8802353939) stands committed to the uphill task she has undertaken. “Be it a pandemic or a flood, I want to enable the common man to better her/ his life.” I asked her if she has a message for our readers. She said, “My only appeal is, please come forward to support social causes. This work needs sponsorships. Please help in whatever way you can – spread the word, volunteer, or donate.”
