The recent dust and rain, accompanied by a storm, took everyone by surprise. It provided relief from the scorching heat as the temperatures soared to 43 degrees Celsius. On May 10, the Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning on X (formerly Twitter), saying that: Impact expected over Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas due to the duststorm: • Strong winds may damage plantations, horticulture, and standing crops. • partial damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds. Minor damage to kutcha houses, walls, and huts. • Loose objects may fly. Some people may have experienced flying objects like clothes and plastic. The parks were carpeted with fallen blooms, which added beauty to a grim picture of leaf-strewn grass. In D3/4, a massive tree fell on cars, and there was heavy damage to the property and vehicles as that portion of the walkway was not lit up, some walkers bumped into the tree, bruising their forehead. The Horticulture Department finally removed the fallen branch. Power cuts were also reported from all the blocks, with residents taking to the WhatsApp groups to ask when the electricity would be restored. As per IMD, a heatwave alert may be issued towards the end of May due to rising temperatures.
