Neeta Joshi of Chip’n Tales is a storyteller and dramatist. Recently she introduced an extraordinary form of storytelling known as ‘Kamishibai’ at Bachpanshala, DLF 2 on April 11,
2024. With the generous support of Arshia Sikka, a resident of DLF 2, the event unfolded seamlessly. Bachpanshala is an initiative by Nandita Chopra to educate underprivileged children free of cost.
Kamishibai, a traditional Japanese street theatre technique, utilises picture storytelling with the aid of BUTAI and HYOSHIGI tools. Neeta Joshi mesmerised the children with an ancient folk tale, each picture card leaving a magical impact on the young audience, who reacted happily and with curiosity. This storytelling technique not only boosts children’s confidence but also nurtures their imagination and stimulates curiosity. The smiles on the children’s faces after the event were worth a million words.
