How many times have we seen advertisement posters illegally stuck on walls, poles and even on sign boards? How many times have we seen 10 of them stuck in the same area on different surfaces? And How many times have we thought, this seems a reliable source, let’s contact them. I’m sure your first 2 answers were “uncountable times” and the last one would be “never” or “hardly ever”. The phrase line “ Jo dikhta hai, vo bikta hai” might work at some places but definitely not where we need some credibility. In times of social media, print media needs to be very carefully curated and I feel the old school way works best – putting posters up in shops where your local society people actually go. Take permission or do barter, whatever works best between the shop and the person putting up the poster. We can even request our RWA to put a notice board for non RWA information, a space where people can display their posters for their upcoming workshops in and around our sector, events happening that month, free classes, and what not. Now wouldn’t that be great? And interested audience would also be aware to keep a check on that board, maybe near the temple, or big park, or market area. But, will we still do what we have been doing? Sticking bills on the instruction stones in our sector, on the important gas pipeline informative stone, on the block and house number guides?? Do we want people to see our poster of TO-LET? Of course!. Do we want them to be able to find the house? Of course YES. Then we need to stop sticking our posters wherever we please and start being responsible in this act. We know the best people to guide us with all this information are shop keepers and that’s where most likely our audience is as well. Lastly, we also need to take accountability for our actions. I keep a gardening workshop in March. People saw the poster, came for the workshop, it was a success. But my job doesn’t end here. In April, I need to remove my posters from wherever I placed them so there is a clean slate and clear space for others to do the same -too much to ask? C’mon! We stick 10 posters illegally on random boards and walls VS displaying it neatly where people will see, without causing harm to society property, without hiding any important information, showing credibility, and keeping the surroundings clean and tidy for all. I would definitely be going for the complete win-win situation for all. You decide.
