Stalemate on Barat Ghar’s Change of Nomenclature to‘Senior Citizen Recreation & Cultural Center’ Continues

Shikha Rai true to her Pre-Election Promise has ensured that the Barat Ghar Building next to Radha Krishan Mandir has yet not been opened to Public. Yes, it is a colossal waste of Money and Prime Space, but then it is an apt lesson for MCD Planners to keep public opinion in mind before embarking on projects that the public is opposed to. Shikha Rai inherited this contentious issue and on seeing Public Resentment, promised if elected she will ensure that the Use Factor of Barat Ghar Building will be changed to Recreation Center, so that the Building shall not be used for Wedding Functions.

Two years on the Building stands desolate, MCD rules as they stand do not allow Restricted Use of Community Center. Once opened, it can be booked Online for any function by anyone from any part of the city. There lies the catch, GK & Kailash Colony Residents want restricted use of the building for just neighbourhood residents, there too NOT FOR WEDDINGS.

Recently Shikha Rai in an informal meeting with some RWA Representatives broached the subject of putting the building for some amicable use. RWA’s informed that there is a need for a space for small functions and prayer meetings as Mahavir Mandir Hall has been shut and the new swanky Auditorium at Arya Samaj is prohibitively expensive, same is the case in other religious places. There is no place for a small budget function in GK-I and Kailash Colony.

Shikha Rai is hopeful of finding a solution that sits right with MCD Rules and does not cause nuisance for the Colony Residents. Hope she succeeds.
