We at South City 1 started segregating our Textile Waste since April 2024 and until October 2024, we have successfully managed to ship 955kg of Tex-tile Waste to Saahas Zero Waste- Material Recovery Facility at Sector 37 Gurugram. Slim Homes is coordinating with Saahas for the collection of the Waste.
The wearable clothes are reused/resold. The old clothes are upcycled to make products such as cloth bags. The category of “Reject Textiles” including torn and worn-out clothes and even dusters and cleaning cloths, are shredded to make felt among other things. The felt is used as sound-proofing material.
The dates for the collection of the Textile Waste are posted across the South City 1 WhatsApp Groups. It is an earnest request to everyone to join these collection drives so that our Waste does not end up adding to the toxic leachate emanating from the Landfill at Bandhwari. We in turn, end up consuming toxic and carcinogenic elements through contamination of the groundwater, air and soil, by the landfill.
