Small Steps Bring Big Changes
According to sources, a landfill in Noida Sec-123 receives over 600 tonnes of garbage per day from Noida. The daily production of an average person is 0.74 kilogrammes, although it can be anywhere between 0.11 and 4.45 kg. These concerning statistics show that adopting a zero-waste lifestyle is now an urgent requirement, not an option.
Waste segregation at source is the first and most important step to be performed in order to transform this entire system. Under ‘Clean Noida Project’ led by a corporate, a first ever workshop-cum-training programme was organised on 23 December, by AURA (Eldeco Utopia) for its domestic helps. The aim of the workshop was to educate these women about the importance and need of segregation.
A very meticulously curated Nukkad Natak was presented to spread awareness about waste management. A small pre- and post-test session was conducted to evaluate the understanding of the domestic help about the topic.
About 50 house helps got benefitted by attending the session. They took an oath to contribute towards keeping their surroundings clean and carry out waste segregation responsibly in their homes as well as in the houses they work. Small token of appreciation and snacks were distributed at the end of the training session.
