Slum Dwellings Within the Green Belt

Recently, there has been a concerning increase in the expansion of slum dwellings within the green belt of Sector 50, particularly in the F-block. The latest encroachment we are witnessing is located opposite Overseas Apartments in F-block. Upon speaking with the site supervisor/coordinator, it has come to our attention that these settlers are migrant labourers and gardeners employed in Meghdutam Park and several other parks within Sector 50.

This unplanned settlement has given rise to various unwanted issues, immediate problem notably is the open defecation in proximity to residential areas and the unauthorized cutting of tree branches from the green belt for use as cooking fuel by the slum dwellers.

To address these challenges, we propose the relocation of labourers to a designated area that is away from the societies in F-block, Sector 50. Additionally, it is crucial to ensure the provision of proper sanitation facilities and toilets for these workers to promote a decent and healthy living environment.

Without timely intervention, the risk of more migrant workers – beyond those associated with park maintenance – settling in these green belts looms large. Establishing an effective system to monitor and prevent additional settlements poses an ongoing challenge for the administration, which may lead to severe law and order issues if not addressed promptly.

We earnestly request the relevant administrative bodies to take swift action in this matter. Such measures will not only improve the living conditions for the high-rise society dwellers in this area but also contribute to maintaining the integrity of green belts and public spaces.
