When a new government is formed, like a new BOM, citizens (residents) are excited to see new blood and want an improved version of the country, in our case, society, in a few days. However, any new government/ BOM takes time to understand the various systems, economics, shortcomings, damages etc.
Governments have different ministries. Similarly, our new BOM has various committees to increase residents’ participation. Nine committees have been – Housekeeping; Sports; Legal; Finance; Infrastructure & Security; Electric, Lifts, Fire & IT; Horticulture; Cultural; and System Improvement.
Like the different ministries, the committees have set responsibilities. They have to deliver it in a time frame. Unlike rich politicians, however, residents work without any pay. And, as we all say, it is a thankless job with a lot of criticism.
Governments have problems in coalition and at times, dissolve due to differences. It will be interesting to see how 10 BOM members, ~50 residents, Facility Office, and the staff coordinate to make AOH the best society to live in!
A government gives a floor test. For our BOM, a similar test will be the forthcoming GBM. It had begun its groundwork a while back for it by asking residents for suggestions. All the best to both our new government and our new BOM!
