Fifteen years back when introducing myself to my Salsa dance class members, I happened to describe myself in a manner, which turned out to be prophetic – “My hobby, umm, I love browsing on my cell phone..!!!”
Little did I know that it would become a habit, a passion, a therapy and then worst of all an addiction!! Surfing the net, both online and offline, would make me tremble, anxious with delight and butterflies in my stomach. Now my family trembles at the mere thought of me going to the nearby mall or accompanying them on a family vacation to Dubai.
It all starts from the time I book my cab and feed Mall of India as the destination! My heart starts to beat and keeps on repeating “Zara, I am crazy for you, Hello HNM, American Eagles ‘began to fly’, Cover Story ‘opens’, Aldo ‘kicks in’ and Adidas says ‘Just shop it’.”

But yes, it is great fun with my finger hovering on the goldmark stamped sarees on the Facebook. During a recent trip while my sister was going ecstatic over Ajanta Ellora Caves, I was double ecstatic grabbing my Paithani silk sarees.
All the while my carbon footprint was diminishing while my online footprint was expanding, with one merry finger going Tap-a-tap-a-tap…!
Even my friend Simi once remarked, “Lavita, ki ankhon meh shopping ka hunar hai” – a compliment to my growing addiction of “Shop till you drop”.
