On March 19 the Essel Towers area experienced significant flooding due to a large sewer backflow. The cause of the issue was a blockage in the main sewer line on MG Road
up to the Signature Tower.
The Essel Tower RWA promptly contacted the Chief Engineer of GMDA, who eventually dispatched staff to the site after consistent follow-up. It took the GMDA staff around 12 hours to clear the sewer line at Signature Tower, during which time Essel Tower had to utilize newly installed dewatering pumps to remove the sewer water from the entrance and clear the roads.
Unfortunately, the situation left a layer of black muck along the Essel Towers entrance, which took two days to remove after drying. This caused inconvenience to residents and visitors, as the sewer water created hygiene issues with its bad odour.
We hope that the GMDA will take proactive measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring, especially during the upcoming monsoon season.
