Seniors in the Colony Love Their Parks

We at Samvada visited many prominent parks in A, C and D block to know what’s happening in these parks. We were amazed to see so many activities undertaken by our residents, especially senior citizens who frequent these colony parks for walks as well as to meet and greet with their friends.

Our colony has more than 20 small and big parks which are used by the residents as per their convenience. Most of these parks are ornamental parks in which a walking strip is created and there are lots of green plants to provide oxygen to the visitors. Some of these parks are beautifully maintained with swings for the children, playing areas (badminton courts, basketball courts etc.) and benches for the senior citizens.

There are few parks like Mahila Park and Durga Puja parks in A block, Puneet Dutt Park in D block, Sukoon Park in C block and central Nallaha Park where people from other colonies (Kotla, Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj etc.) also visit.

The seniors can be seen doing yoga in these parks in the mornings followed by their gup-shup with their respective groups for long hours. They can be seen celebrating their special days or any good news in the family over a cup of chai and snacks – their birthdays, their grandchildren’s birthdays, a job in the family or a visit to some pilgrimage (temples, gurudwara, haridwar or Vaishno Devi).

Seniors have created their groups on which they keep exchanging posts during the day. This not only keeps them busy and in touch but also provides them the much- needed energy to live a healthy life. It was nice to know that these seniors also help each other with medication tips, medicines, doctor’s references for any illness and treatments etc. There are groups who can be seen doing bhajans, singing songs, cracking jokes in the parks for 2- 3 hours every day.

No doubt, the picture of a grandparent taking his grandkid on a walk is always the best sight ever. We wish a long and healthy life to all the seniors of our colony who are trying their best to enjoy life by finding new friends in these parks!
