Every December, Forum for Welfare of Senior Citizens organizes a picnic. On 22nd December 2024, our group of more than 210 members went on a picnic to a farm house in Dera Mandi Greens, New Delhi.
The weather was fine and the group enjoyed hot tea and pakoras in the good sunshine. Then the programme started with some participants coming in different state costumes. States of J. & K., West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana & Goa were represented in the state costumes. Folk dance of Punjab wherein there was ‘Nok’-Jhonk’ between Saali and Jeeja was shown – Jeeja Tu kal, mein gori ghani were enjoyed by all.
A game ‘Fire on the mountain run run run… ’, in which almost everybody participated. This time, Quiz ‘Master’ was Suman Arora and she asked some questions to be replied to by persons, whom she pointed out. Participants were asked to come in the best of their dresses or fancy dresses. Sh. V.K. Malhotra and Mrs. Meenakshi Tripathi were adjudged as best-dressed male and female respectively. Dance items and songs followed the quiz. Some songs were also presented.
Then came lunch, which included saag and makki ki roti with gur, and butter. Everybody enjoyed lunch. The winter season special food satiated every palate.
How can you miss Tambola in any picnic? The 200 – strong group played tambola with Sh. V.K. Malhotra as Tambola Master. Two lucky draw prizes were also given. The final item was tea and biscuits, after which everybody returned home, appreciating the efforts of the organizers.
