Janmashtami celebrations are a great start to festival time. Second year in a row RP2 celebrated the festival with lots of energy and enthusiasm. “Panchamrit” was prepared by the ladies for the deity’s “Abhishek” Panchamrit is made up of two words – Panch meaning five and Amrit meaning nectar of immortality. This is the reason it is called the “Drink of Gods. The drink is made up of 5 ingredients which are milk, dahi, ghee, honey and sugar.
According to Mahabharat Panchamrit was one of the ingredients that emerged during the Samudra Manthan. That is the reason it is offered to the gods first and then offered as prashad.
Everyone took turns and performed Abhishek of Bal Gopal. Then the deity was dressed in new clothes followed by Aarti. The children were happy to give baby Krishna a little Jhula. Following the Arti, the stage was set for a wonderful cultural program. Little kids performed a beautiful dance choreographed by our dear Rajani ma’am. Sneh Aunty, a senior citizen from Y block who is an enthusiastic dancer performed beautifully to a song. Her movements and expressions mesmerized the audience. Following this Shashi Trehan Aunty from Y block who is an octogenarian and has undergone knee replacement surgery for both knees also performed a beautiful dance to a Krishna bhajan. Bina Sareen Aunty sang a beautiful Bhajan. The cultural program kept the audience asking for more. The entire celebration was simple yet grand in its simplicity. Once again a beautifully arranged function by the RWA team.
