Senior Citizens Go on a Picnic

December is invariably the month, when Forum for Welfare of Senior Citizens members go out for Picnic. The date is fixed to avoid a clash with the marriage in order to facilitate ease in or ganizing the picnic. This time the picnic was held on 17th December‘23.

Lot of advance planning had to be gone through in order to make the outing enjoyable for the senior citizen participants. A large-hearted couple mostly shows generosity in offering their farm house as the venue for the picnic.

An advance party of 5 members left at 7.45 A.M. to mark indicators for the convenience of the participants and to get chairs and tables arranged as per a workable plan. A representative remained at the assembly point in S Block, GK II for 30 minutes to make arrangement for those who were needed transport. The caterer was ready with hot cup of tea and pakoras much before 10.30A.M, which was appreciated by the participants. The weather was pleasant and the revelers enjoyed the beautiful sunshine. As 200 senior citizens formed the picnic group, it was quite essential to begin with a mutual interaction between them as not everyone may know all others. President Sneh Gauba thought of a novel method when the participants were made to stand in two circles, an outer and an inner circle, facing each other. At the start of the music, the participants started moving in opposite direction- one circle moving in clock wise and the other moving in anti -clockwise direction. Members directly facing each other at the stop of the music had to introduce themselves to one another. This was followed by a mind game in which Sh. V.K.Gauba was the quiz master. In this game, questions were asked to a few participants. Three member jury decided ‘Mr. Outing 2023’ and ‘Lady Outing 2023’ winners on the basis of the replies given by the participants. There were ten questions in the quiz and prizes were given to those who gave correct answers.

‘Pitthoo’ was played for the first time in picnic. The referees-cum- organizers were Sh. Alok Goyal and Sh. Raman Malhotra. Lot of excitement was seen during the game which concluded in a draw. . There were 12 participants for the Fancy Dress show. They walked on the ramp one by one. A panel of judges decided the winners. This followed musical performance compered by Mrs. Meena Kapur. A vibrant and rhythmic performance was given by various member artists.

Lunch was well organized. All participants enjoyed and appreciated the sumptuous food, which included sarson-ka-saag and makki ki roti.

The first item post lunch was all time favourite tambola. Sh. V.K. Malhotra was the tambola organizer. ‘Musical Chairs’ game was conducted by Dr. S.S. Dhillon. Lucky draw was organized by Dr. Veena Kapoor. Finally, everybody left in the evening after having tea. Following were the winners in different events.

On reaching home, congratulatory messages have started coming on social media. Members are asking for another picnic in February 2024 – a sign of success of the show.
