This month, the seniors took part in two major activities:
Candle March for Justice: The SCF Defence Colony members, led by Chairperson Harjit Kaur Bawa, joined
by some younger residents of Defence Colony, participated in a candle march to condemn a recent tragic crime involving a dedicated doctor, held at AV Nagar (a residential area for AIIMS Delhi doctors and nurses). The event, organized by Abhishek Dutt, was a poignant demonstration of unity and resolve. Despite the intense humidity, the spirited seniors put aside their ailments to march around AV Nagar, holding banners and chanting slogans. Abhishek Dutt credited the idea for the march to Harjit Kaur Bawa. The march was a peaceful and heartfelt social campaign, providing an opportunity to work towards a safer community for future generations.
Double Dhamaka Celebration: On August 21, we celebrated both World Senior Citizens Day and our August Birthday Bash, an event attended by about 90 senior members. The festivities kicked off with Kanchan Anand warmly welcoming our SCF family and two special guests: Abhishek Dutt and Priya Krishna, who travelled all the way from Bangalore to join us.
I gave a brief address to our SCF family, followed by KS Rekhi ceremoniously presenting birthday cards to our August-born members. Our generous ND Bhasin brought sweets for the birthday celebrants, which added to the joyous atmosphere. We then enjoyed a delightful cake-cutting ceremony, accompanied by a heartfelt live performance of “Tum Jiyo Hazaro Saal.”
Pawan Talwar enhanced the celebrations with a beautiful poem, while the nostalgic, upbeat music of Kishore kept everyone dancing. Col. NK Malhotra, one of our birthday celebrants, shared memories of his association with former Chairperson S. GPS Bawa and his role as Co-Chairperson of SCF, reminiscing about their wonderful times working together.
We were honored to have two special invitees: Abhishek Dutt, who made a special effort to organize the World Senior Citizens Day, and Priya Krishna, the dynamic three-time MLA from Bangalore. Abhishek Dutt fondly recalled starting his career with the blessings of the late S. GPS Bawa and Sheila Dixit, former Chief Minister of Delhi.
“True service isn’t about grand publicity; it’s about doing small things with great love.” We need more people like Abhishek—rooted in compassion and humility. We, the seniors, wish him continued success and happiness.
Vijay Kumar extended a warm welcome to our special guests, which was followed by a delightful high tea. As we celebrate, we remember that “Unity is not about being the same; it’s about being together.”
I want to thank my SCF family for their genuine participation in making each of our events magical. I look forward to many more memorable moments together.
Events planned for September:
1. Comprehensive Free Health Check-Up by Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket.
2. September Birthday Celebrations
