Sustains swelling and fracture
In a very shocking incident in the colony, a senior citizen was assaulted physically by a neighbor over an unknown reason. The senior citizen who is a septuagenarian lives alone with her husband who has advanced stage Alzheimer’s. Their only son lives in America.
The said neighbor walked into the driveway of her house and in full view of her domestic help, slapped and beat her up, causing her to fracture her hip. The incident took place on the 5th of June. The force of the physical assault knocked her down and she was thereafter kicked as well.
The mental anguish caused as a result of this attack has rendered her shaken and terrified. The physical and mental trauma suffered is unimaginable for a lay person. The police were informed and an FIR has been lodged. This apparently is not the first time the said person has been physically and verbally violent.
We believe there have been reports that the offender is undergoing some treatment for depression. However this cannot absolve him of such unsavory acts and behavior. In such cases the family becomes responsible for the individual. Failing which the law needs to step in to ensure that the safety and security of the general public and neighbors becomes paramount.
Senior citizens are the most vulnerable section of our society and an incident like this shames us all. Failing to address an issue like this would be the biggest setback to civilized society.
