Regular Classes to Start in Nov
In view of rising incidents of snatching and other assaults, Dr. Pooja Wadhwa (A-196) took the initiative of organising a free demo class of the famed ‘Kavach’ Self-Defence Team at Club-26 on 15th Sept. Some 20 people, mostly ladies with some teenagers and kids, turned up at Nilgiri Hall for this session. Varun Rawat and Divya Panwar, along with Aniket Rana and Pranali, demonstrated a few unarmed self-defence techniques.
This included situations like what to do when someone drags one by hand, pulls one’s hair, or tries to choke one. Participants were told to try to practice with each other with the instructors correcting each person. They shared many tips, asking participants to be aware of one’s surroundings (situational awareness) and be alert when one is out of one’s safe zone. They also shared how to stay safe in cabs/taxis and how to protect oneself if a cab driver takes an alternate route.
The exhilarating one-hour session quickly extended to two hours before the instructors called it a day. Varun Rawat, an ex-forces guy, said they have developed 317 self-defence techniques for various situations, including how to deflect attacks from knives and guns. Divya Panwar has trained Delhi Police contingents and two prominent Bollywood actresses.
Given the interest in the self-defence classes, it was decided that Club-26 will start these classes post-Diwali in November with separate batches for children and adults. For more information, call the Club-26 office at 0120-4311790-91 or Dr. Pooja Wadhwa at +91 9818409960.
