It takes a lot of talent to organize this type of broad day burglary and that too right under the eyes of a large number of people. It took Professor Krishna Sekhar Vattikuti (J 54, Sector 41) some time and a lot of close observation to realize what was happening. There is this group of three people, two boys and a woman. The woman walks on the road and does the initial groundwork, followed by a phone call. Then two boys come looking like two innocent labourers. They take out the iron grids on the drains and take them away. And all this happens when the road is full of commuters. Had they been doing it at night, they would have come under the notice of guards or residents. But one is amazed at their intelligence to steal it at a time when they are inconspicuous, people mistaking them for workers. Professor Vattikuti has taken a CCTV camera picture of one of the boys. He wants people to be aware and vigilant.
Security seems to have taken a backseat in the Sector during the last few months. Multiple numbers of thefts and burglaries have left the residents shocked. A few residents say that they have seen children playing in the lanes and then they knock on the doors and ask for water. They do not belong to the Sector. Some fear that it’s a gimmick they are using to gather information about the households. Another resident says that underage youngsters have been seen in the park consuming alcohol. All this news is not good for the security of the Sector.
There has been a debate as to how security can be increased in the Sector. A few residents opine that funds need to be raised to provide foolproof security. However, others feel that raising funds will not solve any problems. Deploying better-trained guards with someone to keep a strict vigilance will solve the issue. Another resident feels that RWA will always be short of funds even by raising the monthly charges more members stop paying and the burden falls on those who pay, and the cycle of shortage goes on. As with all types of crime, prevention is much better than cure. Taking simple measures, such as locking your windows, leaving indoor lights on a timer, double or dead-locking your doors, and having exterior lights on sensors, can significantly reduce your chances of being burgled. As for this gang out on the loose, the RWA needs to take notice and act.
