For months, Sector 41 has been grappling with a persistent sewer pipe overflow issue. The resultant accumulation of wastewater in front of homes has left residents complaining of unbearable stench and discomfort. Despite lodging complaints, temporary fixes have yielded no lasting solutions, as the problem simply shifts to another location. The root cause lies in Noida’s sewer lines, which were not designed to accommodate the rapid population explosion. Consequently, most blocks in the area face similar challenges. It seems the only viable solution is to replace the existing pipes with larger ones, as successfully done in J Block. To achieve this, a collective representation with sustained follow-up at the top level is necessary, coupled with active support from the RWA. Currently, temporary fixes by line men provide brief respite, only for the issue to resurface.
A representation from “A” Block has already been submitted, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. With new four-story builder flats on the rise, the problem will soon become unmanageable. The main sewer lines in A, B, and C Blocks are already operating at full capacity, leading to inadequate clearance of household sewer traps. Sanitation workers point to another contributing factor: the improper disposal of sanitary napkins, unwanted clothes, and plastic, which clogs the drains. The accumulation of sewer water in residential waste pipes poses a severe health hazard, potentially leading to serious ailments like gastroenteritis and pneumonia.
“The only remedy is to secure budgetary sanctions from the authorities to lay down new sewer lines with larger diameters, as demonstrated in J Block. A united front, in consultation with the RWA, must represent this case to the authorities. If necessary, a joint meeting with local MLA and MP will be arranged, keeping the Chief Minister informed. “, opines Mr Dheer. A representation signed by 15 members has already been submitted to the JE, but despite assurances, concrete action remains elusive due to budget constraints. Your consent, suggestions, and support are crucial in addressing this pressing issue. “Together, we can effect change. The success story of J Block’s sewer line replacement serves as a beacon of hope. Let us unite to resolve this crisis and create a healthier, more sustainable living environment.”, he says.
