There has been a spurt in online scams in recent days. Gullible people, especially senior citizens who are not so technology savvy, are sitting ducks for the scamsters.
The unethical scamsters send panic-creating messages like electricity being cut off by nightfall or debit card being blocked for lack of proper KYC. The recipient of the message is prompted to click on a link or call on a number and thus the ensnaring of the person begins. They ask for screen-sharing apps to be downloaded or OTP shared and the bank balance is soon wiped out.
We must learn from the mistakes of others. Never give any information to suspicious callers. Just disconnect the call. OTP, pins, and passwords should never be shared. New scams are perpetrated often so remain vigilant and be safe.
