It was noticed & reported by many residents that a couple of hawkers including a “Momo Wala”, ice cream vendors & a “Namkeen Wala” had started putting their carts on the main road starting from S1 to S 83, in the evenings.
The problem was not with the hawkers but people stopping their vehicles near the carts & buying stuff from them.
Hans Raj Gupta Marg is a very busy road, even otherwise & the presence of the cars with their customers had posed a serious traffic problem.
Complaints to MCD & PWD had no effect.
The MC of SBWS decided to take direct action & started a drive to discourage these vendors not to park their carts on the main road. As We all know, the huge pavements on this road are already encroached upon by builders, dumping their construction materials, security huts & vehicle parked in front of shops & several hospitals/testing centers & hotels. The hapless pedestrian is forced to walk on the road itself, endangering his/her life. Roads were being encroached upon by these vendors.
On a particular day, when our guards along with some MC members were shooing away these vendors, a few ladies approached the guards & told them not to harass the poor people & let them be there.
On explaining the ground reality of traffic hazards, these ladies relented.
It is an ongoing exercise & the guards shall have to be vigilant all the time otherwise these people would come back very fast.
